Please note that our lunch time will change starting Monday, October 3rd to 12:48 - 1:18. An email was sent home today about the change in lunch time. Here's a look at what we're learning the week after Fall Break: Math - Division We will learn how to divide using different strategies like fact families, repeated subtraction, using a number line, and drawing groups. Please have your child practice their multiplication facts on a daily basis. Reading - In reading groups, we will continue focusing on using affixes (prefixes and suffixes) to determine the meaning of words, as well as focus on comprehension and fluency. The September book report is due October 6th. Language Arts Writing - Introduce Opinion Writing Grammar - Pronouns continued Spelling - Sort 6: Dipthongs oi, oy, ou, ow Sort 6 Test on Friday Science - We are learning about the different types of soil. Ask your child to name all three. Be sure to ask about what we did with soil in the Science Lab! Social Studies - We will continue learning about goods and services, consumers and producers, and the four productive resources which are natural, capital, human, and entrepreneurship. STEM - Mineral Display Case If your child has any supplies that they want to bring for this STEM Challenge, they may bring them in on Monday. Testing
We will continue ITBS testing Monday through Wednesday of this week. Thank you for making sure your child is at school on time for testing. I appreciate it! Rally Kickball Game I hope to see you at the Tritt - Mt. Bethel Faculty Kickball Game on September 20th at 5:00 at the Walton High School Baseball Field. Be sure to ask your child about the Pep Rally that we had on Friday. We made posters and learned cheers for the game to support Rally and Kick Cancer to the Curb! Conference Forms Conference letters were sent home last Thursday. Thank you for returning those as soon as possible. Here's a look at what we're learning this week: Math - Multiplication We will continue focusing on multiplying using different strategies like making an array, repeated addition, using a number line to skip count, and making a picture. We will begin taking multiplication timed tests soon so I encourage you to have your child practice their facts on a daily basis. Reading - With testing this week, we will not be meeting in our reading groups. We will be focusing on using affixes (prefixes and suffixes) to determine the meaning of words. During independent reading time in class your child should be reading a book in their lexile range which is their independent reading level. Your child may choose to read books at a different level at other times. They can find books on their level using Destiny on the Tritt website or www.lexile.com. September Book Report is due October 6th. Language Arts - Writing - We will be writing a new personal narrative this week using the steps of the writing process. Grammar - Pronouns Spelling - R-influenced vowel patterns -are, -ire, -ore, -ure, -air, -ear Sort 5 Test on Friday Science - We are finishing up Fossils with a test on Friday. The study guide was sent home on Friday and completed together in class. Social Studies - We are learning about goods and services, consumers and producers, and the four productive resources which are natural, capital, human, and entrepreneurship. 3rd grade will be taking the Cogat on Tuesday through Thursday of this week. IOWA testing starts on Friday and continues through next Wednesday. What can you do to help your child do their best? Get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. Please have your child at school in our classroom before the bell rings as we begin testing immediately after announcements. It makes multiplication so much easier when your child fluently knows the basic multiplication facts. We will be taking timed tests to build fact fluency. We will continue using the problem solving steps (Understand, Solve, Explain) to solve multi-step word problems throughout the year. Reading - We will be focusing on using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. During independent reading time in class your child should be reading a book in their lexile range which is their independent reading level. Your child may choose to read books at a different level at other times. September Book Report is due October 6th.
